FULL-DAY CONFERENCE

Thursday, October 7, 2010

8:00 am – 5:00 pm
New York City

Designed to Meet the Needs of GPs, LPs, & Managers of Buyout, Growth Equity, Mezzanine, & Lending Funds, as Well as Independent Sponsors, Operating Partners, Portfolio Company Managers, and the Bankers, Lawyers, Accountants,

& Other Advisors Who Support Them

Faculty | Schedule | Registration | Location | Sponsorship | Audio Package |

Family offices and high net worth individuals increasingly represent a prime source of capital for today’s beleaguered private equity fund managers. A recent Preqin survey of family offices shows that 84% of family office investors consider private equity to have met or exceeded their expectations -- and they’re receptive to deal opportunities from both their current GPs and emerging GPs.

Meanwhile the current marketplace is more promising than even six months ago. Liquidity is coming back to family offices and wealthy individuals allowing them to put more dollars into funds to maintain their allocation percentages -- and opening the door to emerging managers with solid credentials.

BUT IT’S NOT A SLAM DUNK TO MAKE THE SALE -- these LPs are hard to find and approach. Once you locate them, you need to quickly differentiate yourself from the competition, demonstrate why you are unique, and establish trust. Many office managers and high net worth investors make their decisions in the first five minutes of your meeting, and they will be looking for a reason to say “no.”

Overall, there is a flight to quality -- along with a flight to simplification. Family office managers and wealthy individuals are searching for solid returns, but paying more attention to risk and leverage. Family office managers are putting more money behind fewer names, paring down their portfolios of managers, and not being as patient as they may have been months ago.

There is also no one-size-fits-all approach to this marketplace. Family office managers usually must be approached differently than high net worth individuals -- the former may prefer institutional-style spreadsheets that can be sliced and diced, while the latter may make a quick decision based on trust and other intangibles.

In all cases, how you are introduced is usually a major factor, so you need to mine your connections and contacts and be aware of how to leverage new technologies and approaches such as online exchanges like Trusted Insight.

So whether you’re targeting a single high net worth individual, or the managers for single or multiple family fortunes, you must be thoroughly familiar with the issues that motivate them. And since these normally reclusive advisors value their privacy, your best avenue to hearing their likes and dislikes first-hand is to attend this all-new, full-day conference from The Capital Roundtable --

Private Equity Fundraising From

Family Offices & Wealthy Individuals --

How More & More Private Equity Firms Are Meeting

Their Goals Outside the Usual Institutional Sources

By attending this conference on Thursday, October 7 in New York, GPs will learn how to get the attention of family office managers and wealthy individuals, and what terms they need to offer.

While investors who attend will discover how deals are being structured in today’s recovering market and how other family offices are adjusting their asset allocations for the times.

Our last Family Office conference was held this February to a sold-out audience, and the high interest told us it was well worth an encore. But more importantly, over the preceding months, things have heated up and the game has changed in a good way. That’s why attending this conference is a must if you want the true insider’s view of this rich market.

What’s more, you can take advantage of our special Early Bird Discount -- if you act quickly. Sign up today for this MasterClass, and we will happily take $400 off your registration price!

20 Leading Authorities on Raising Funds from This Exclusive Audience.

With two co-chairs for this MasterClass, we are pleased to have twice the firepower to walk you through the deals, the sources, and the best practices.

Mark Jones is partner at River Associates Investments in Tennessee -- a private equity partner for management teams of lower middle-market companies in the United States and Canada. Since 1989, family offices, wealthy individuals and select institutions have entrusted River Associates with their investment capital. The firm is currently investing River V, L.P., a $110 million committed capital fund, in companies across the country with adjusted operating income (EBITDA) ranging from $2-10 million. Mark himself served on the National Board of Directors of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) from 2005-2010 and was Chairman of ACG Intergrowth 2008.  He is a frequent speaker at PE and M&A related events and has authored a variety of industry relevant articles. Previously, he served as a Vice President of Corporate Lending for SouthTrust Bank. Mark received a BA from Vanderbilt University in economics and an MBA from Samford University in Birmingham.

Jason Payne is managing partner and founder of Mainsail Partners in San Francisco -- a private equity firm with over $150 million of capital under management, investing exclusively in companies with revenue between $4 – $50 million. In addition to co-managing the firm, Jason advises Mainsail CEOs as a board member for their portfolio companies. Previously, he co‑founded technology company WiredCapital, helped grow American Dental Partners from start-up to over $130 million in revenues, and worked for PE firm Summit Partners. Jason holds an AB in international relations from Stanford University.

Along with Mark and Jason, you’ll hear from prominent family office managers, GPs working with family office managers and wealthy individuals, plus PE industry specialists in making fundraising presentations, preparing pitch books, negotiating GP/LP agreements, and arranging deal structures.

Four brand-new panel presentations will help you display your uniqueness and raise the funds you need for a more successful 2011.

This conference will offer real-world answers to such questions as --

  • What are the best ways to locate family office managers, and how do you secure introductions?
  • Why should family offices and high net worth individuals be approached in different ways?
  • How has the model of running a family office changed over the past decade?
  • What changes are family offices making to their long-term asset allocation models?
  • How quickly do family office managers usually expect to see a return on their investments?
  • How should you tailor your pitches to family offices and high net worth individuals?
  • What presentation materials best help family office professionals assess the value of your opportunity?
  • What are the traps that can lead you to overwhelm rather than correctly impress your potential investors?
  • How can you best demonstrate you are not “just another middle-market” fund?
  • What deal structures are in the majority today? Are LLCs or C-corps in favor?
  • What new technologies are changing the game, and how do you use them to your advantage?
  • And much, much more.

Come For the Contacts, Stay For the Information.

Meeting your counterparts, prospects, and resources is an important part of the day, and rest assured we’ve built in plenty of time between panels and over lunch when you can network with fellow attendees and our featured speakers. You’re sure to leave this conference on Thursday, October 7, with a full measure of things to do and people to see that you’ll put to good use the very next day.

You should attend this conference if you are a --

  • GP wanting to learn how best to pitch to family offices and high net worth individuals.
  • Family office manager looking to build relationships with GPs who are making pitches.
  • High net worth individuals interested in breaking into the PE world.
