Today’s worldwide market volatility is beginning to wreak havoc on the middle-market private equity community.
On the one hand, it’s jeopardizing plans for exits, because operating partners are more and more worried about having to carry portfolio companies longer than they originally anticipated.
And of course, it’s stressing out investment teams who are more and more worried about going forward with new deal opportunities.
Both issues mean a redoubled focus on methods and opportunities for growing bottom-lines and protecting valuations. For example, operating partners say that cost containment is being trumped by a more outward focus on such issues like how to optimize pricing strategies… how properly to balance organic vs. inorganic growth… even how to evaluate adjacency opportunities.
This environment is tricky, and you need to know how to identify and execute best
practices to bolster and boost your portfolio companies’ performance.
So you need to check in at The Capital Roundtable’s intensive full-day encore
conference on Thursday, September 22, in New York, and join the conversation
about how to position your companies for the heavy weather that the 2012
marketplace is going to bring.
And remember a specific best practice past attendees have used -- make your
reservation today, and you’ll receive our special Early Bird Discount -- a generous
savings of $400!
Overseeing PE Portfolio Companies
When Markets Are Volatile --
Tools, Techniques, & Talents for Finding
Silver Linings in Today’s Cloudy Outlook
As our chairman, we’re delighted to welcome a popular speaker from our past conferences, Greg Pappas, Operating Partner at Boston-based Berkshire Partners, a leading private equity firm with a 25-year track record of success plus $6.5 billion of committed capital.
Greg is responsible for overseeing Berkshire’s portfolio support activities. He was previously a senior partner at The Parthenon Group where he managed its private equity practice, chaired its business development committee, and was a member of its executive committee.
Prior to joining Parthenon, Greg was with Deloitte's audit and financial services group where he advised on mergers and acquisitions, as well as the organization of control, cost management, and reporting systems. He holds a BS from Lehigh University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
20 Portfolio Company Experts Bring You a 360˚ Perspective
Along with Greg, our four all-new panel discussions will feature 20 smart operating partners, deal partners, and functional specialists who will help you take steps to
protect value today and prepare for sales and IPOs down the road.
They will share their real-world perspectives, lessons learned, and industry outlooks,
including insights on managing their own past and present portfolio companies.
Remember, fixing your airplanes at 30,000 feet can be detrimental. What you really need are specific initiatives and performance indicators. So it’s vital to know which tracking processes can support your agenda.
And increasing bottom lines takes vigilance. Supply chains are being proactively managed. Service partners are being challenged to add more value. Even pooled purchasing across portfolio companies is being totally revisited.
What’s more, operating partners and advisors are spending more time on the human capital side of their portfolio companies. It’s estimated that a third of all newly-hired CEOs fail, costing businesses tens of millions of dollars in value destruction.
You’ll also want to hear the key issues involved with building top teams. The efforts you use to de-risk hiring are invaluable in building portfolio companies. From assessment tools to coaching programs, this conference will help you avoid costly mistakes that you could avoid -- to eliminate failure and sustain growth.
And you’ll discover ways of finding top-tier talent, communicating with boards, partners, and advisors, and monitoring grapevine chatter.
This conference will also cover the current challenges with preparing your companies
for successful exits. There’s a long list of things that you may not always get from your
investment bankers, and you need this information to protect your own interests when
selling a company.
So we’ll explain how to deal with the waiting game by setting realistic valuations, avoiding compliance problems, and minimizing business distraction.
You’ll learn tactics for picking the right pathways while avoiding the pitfalls, including how to properly prepare for road shows or investor presentations. You’ll hear how to avoid major errors like having too few members of the leadership team participate (or worse, a CEO solo performance). Over‑reliance on your investment banker to prepare your document, so there’s plenty of data but not enough material substance. Or not articulating a multi-year look at this choppy world-wide economy.
Register now for the answers to these relevant questions and others --
- How can you evaluate adjacencies for their likely growth potential?
- What processes can help you exceed your revenue growth goals?
- Which techniques work best for enhancing operational effectiveness?
- What key strategies can help protect your portfolio companies’ top and bottom lines?
- What specific cost-cutting steps can pay recurring dividends, and which are overused and underwhelming?
- When does it pay to add hands-on operating partners to current portfolio company management?
- How can you make the right hires for CEOs, CFOs, and other senior executives?
- What are the best practices for acclimating new executives to your companies?
- What social networking applications are seeing the most traction among PE firms?
- Are there software tools available that can assist with human capital needs -- performance tracking, senior manager evaluation, and other aspects?
- What steps can you take to assess your portfolio companies for IPO readiness?
- How can you build traction with road shows and management presentations?
- And much, much more.
Plus Another Important Human Element -- Connections
Our portfolio companies conferences are well known for their excellent networking opportunities. The day’s agenda includes planned session breaks and an open lunch where you can exchange ideas and business cards with fellow attendees and featured speakers.
You should attend this MasterClass if you are an --
- Operating partner who wants to maximize the performance of your portfolio companies, and know how other firms are handling related issues.
- GP considering employing operating partners and helping them enact change.
- Institutional investor or independent sponsor who wants to better understand today’s operational considerations.
- PE professional who wants to expand your skills beyond origination and financing.
- Managing executive of a portfolio company who wants to be proactive in boosting future returns.
Remember, register with our Early Bird Discount by August 12, 2011, and you’ll save $400 off our standard fee! Please make your reservation now while seats are available -- we don’t want you to be disappointed later. We’ll be looking forward to greeting you.
