FULL-DAY CONFERENCE

8:00 am – 5:00 pm

New York City

Designed to Meet the Needs of GPs, LPs, & Managers of Buyout, Growth Equity, Mezzanine, and Lending Funds, as Well as Independent Sponsors, Operating Partners, Portfolio Company Managers, and the Bankers, Lawyers, Accountants,

& Other Advisors Who Support Them

Consumers today are increasingly interested in products and services that enhance their wellbeing -- advancements in preventive care, sports medicine, and exercise physiology are fueling demand.

The appeal of the healthy, active, and better living space is multi-generational.  Millennials and Gen-Xers are flocking to health clubs, chasing extreme activities, and turning to alternative medicine in place of traditional allopathic care.

And baby boomers are seeking solutions to staying “vertical” longer, which encompass such areas as joint health, orthopedic solutions, diabetes prevention, and weight management.

What’s more, new technology is rapidly expanding the category. There are electronic gadgets galore, such as the wearable fitness monitors that track everything from exercise to potential health concerns.

And many traditional products are benefiting from design innovations that create demand … for instance, “thermos bottles” are replaced by “hydration mugs.”

You’ll gain the know-how to succeed in this marketplace when you attend The Capital Roundtable’s ENCORE conference -- “Private Equity Investing in Healthy, Active, & Better Living Companies” -- being held in New York City on Thursday, May 22nd.

It’s clear why this industry is so attractive to private equity --

  • The HABL market is now over $1 trillion, representing over 10% of all consumer spending.
  • The market has grown at an average rate of 7% for the past 15 years, or 3 times the pace of U.S. GDP.
  • There are over 100,000 entrepreneurial companies within this fragmented space -- in fact baby boomer entrepreneurs own nearly half of HABL companies.

But there’s a catch.  Sellers are looking for buyers who are authentic with a capital A -- for example, a company selling outdoor equipment is much more likely to do business with a PE investor who’s enthusiastic about mountaineering, not merely conversant about it.  So having an insider’s perspective is a must.

Whether you’re attracted to action sports or personal care, to dementia treatment or spa services, it’s crucial to be able to differentiate between fads and trends.

Six Key Reasons to Register Now

Here are 6 important reasons you should register now for this encore Capital Roundtable conference, “Private Equity Investing in Healthy, Active, Better Living Companies” --

  • Learn why there is persistently high interest in healthy, active, and better living companies from strategic buyers.
  • Discover the major demographic and psychographic trends that should continue to propel market growth.
  • Hear why the global obesity epidemic is driving increasing concern to improve one’s quality of life.
  • Understand how to leverage the all-time boom in outdoor recreational activities.
  • Recognize how to identify the winners and reject the losers out of competing healthy living solutions.
  • Find out how successful healthy living brands are using social media to build dialogue with consumers.

Returning once again to chair this encore conference on Thursday, May 22, is Lou Marinaccio, managing director at North Castle Partners in Greenwich, Connecticut -- the leading small cap consumer private equity firm focused on health, wellness, and active living companies.

Lou has over 20 years of experience investing in, advising, and operating consumer and middle-market companies, including over 12 years at North Castle. He currently serves on the boards of Flatout Flatbreads, Palladio Beauty Group, and Mineral Fusion Natural Brands, previously served on the boards of Atkins/Bora-Bora Organic Foods, gloProfessional and Naked Juice, and helps lead North Castle's beauty and personal care investments.

Lou also served as interim CEO of DDF, a prior North Castle portfolio company, delivering sales and earnings growth leading to a sale to Procter & Gamble.

Prior to North Castle, Lou was an engagement manager at McKinsey & Company, advising consumer, life sciences, retail, and healthcare clients on strategy, business development, and operational improvement issues. He began his career in middle-market corporate finance at ABN-AMRO. Lou earned a BBA in finance from the University of Michigan and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

Register Now to Meet 20 Healthy, Active & Better Living Experts

This conference on May 22 will bring you three panel discussions led by our chair and featuring shared insights from top PE professionals, plus two informative keynote presentations and two informal chats. You will hear real-world perspectives, lessons learned, and industry outlooks, plus insights on managing current portfolio companies.

You will also hear about notable middle-market industry deals such as --

  • Altamont Capital Partners’ acquisition of Mervin Manufacturing, a leading maker of snowboards.
  • North Castle Partners’ acquisition of Jenny Craig, an iconic brand in the weight loss industry.
  • Wafra Partners and Thurston Group’s investment in Smiles Services, a dental services organization.
  • The Riverside Company’s acquisition of Y International, a bicycle retailer with 29 company-owned stores.
  • Clearlake Capital Group’s acquisition of PrimeSport, a sports travel and entertainment management company.
  • TZP Capital Partners’ investment in Snap Fitness, one of the world’s leading health and wellness brands.

By attending this Capital Roundtable conference, you’ll be well poised to act on the very best middle-market deal opportunities of 2014. We’ll answer questions such as --

  • Which specific subsectors within healthy, active, and better living are likely to provide the best returns during 2014?
  • What makes the healthy, active, and better living space so attractive for middle-market PE investors today and what factors may impact its future growth?
  • How can first-time investors in the space avoid traps and pitfalls?
  • What are the metrics and valuation guidelines that can help you judge a middle-market healthy, active, and better living deal?
  • Which niche areas are likely to generate the most passion among consumers??
  • What are the misconceptions about middle-market healthy, active, and better living investing -- and what is the reality?
  • What upcoming trends have the potential to shake up the healthy, active, and better living industry?
  • What have been some recent notable deals with middle-market healthy, active, and better living companies?
  • What are the ways social media can enhance performance and buzz for healthy, active, and better living companies?
  • What are the most important things a firm has to get right when exiting a healthy, active, and better living investment?
