Designed to Meet the Needs of GPs, LPs, & Managers of Buyout, Growth Equity, Mezzanine, and Lending Funds, as Well as Independent Sponsors, Operating Partners, Portfolio Company Managers, and the Bankers, Lawyers, Accountants,

& Other Advisors Who Support Them

While the ramifications of the Affordable Care Act play out on the front pages, the key fact for healthcare investors is that “Obamacare” is the law – and eventually there will be 20 million brand-new insured Americans.

For buyers, that means the time is ripe for investing in niche providers who will thrive under the new law. Conversely, for sellers, it may be a good time to exit current portfolio companies at today’s appealingly high valuations.

The metrics of 2014 and 2015 are highly positive --

  • The number of patients insured under government programs will rise from 40% today to over 55%.
  • Total spending on healthcare is projected to exceed $4.5 trillion by 2020, with an average annual growth rate of 5.8%.
  • High valuations — generally 1 to 1 1/2X the rest of the deal market — are fostering excellent returns for investors that choose the right opportunities.

Register Now to stay abreast of the opportunities and challenges, by attending The Capital Roundtable’s encore conference -- “Private Equity Investing in Healthcare Services Companies” -- being held in New York City on Thursday, February 13th.

This is the Capital Roundtable’s 13th annual edition of the only healthcare conference that focuses exclusively on the needs of middle-market private equity GPs and LPs.

Obviously, one key result of the new law is higher customer volume -- many of America’s new insureds will frequent the new lower-cost delivery channels that have sparked private equity interest, such as retail-based locations, urgent care centers, and at-home services.

Opportunities include the needs to expand primary care capacity for this new influx, and nursing schools to provide staff.

Another example is the new law’s establishment of Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs). Providers have taken the first steps, but every city and region has different referral patterns, specialty guidelines, and practice economics. Third-party firms are stepping in nationwide to help providers manage the risks, establish pricing, negotiate networks, and install necessary IT.

At the same time, many providers that already have shiny new IT systems for tracking and reporting outcomes are not using their systems to their fullest — and need help.

There are also new mobile technologies continually entering the healthcare service space to allow for home monitoring and clinical research data collection.

When you Register Now, you’ll hear private equity buyers’ and sellers’ perspectives on all major healthcare services subsectors, including --

  • Retail Health – bringing more convenience to everyday healthcare needs
  • Specialty Clinics – benefiting from the synergies in bringing radiologists, physical therapists and other practitioners together
  • Urgent Care – free-standing centers that deliver excellence with efficiency
  • Pain Management Clinics – serving the growing ranks of Americans suffering from acute or chronic pain. Anesthesia practices are a related growth area.
  • Independent Practice Associations – building groups of doctors with a diverse range of capabilities to provide comprehensive patient care
  • Physician Practice Management – more crucial than ever for small and medium-sized groups without the latest expertise on staff
  • Community and Regional Hospitals – who may have the vision and expertise to make needed changes but not the funding

Here are 6 important reasons you should Register Now for this encore Capital Roundtable conference, “Private Equity Investing in Healthcare Services Companies” --

  1. Discover which subsectors within healthcare services may offer investors the best opportunities during 2014.
  2. Learn why, like it or not, successful investors are finding the silver linings within the Affordable Care Act.
  3. Hear why lenders are eagerly backing middle-market healthcare services deals.
  4. Understand how the valuation gap between buyers and sellers can affect healthcare services deals.
  5. Listen to recent case histories that illustrate the unique opportunities awaiting investors in this market.
  6. Recognize how to spot potential turnaround situations where private equity expertise can drive growth.

As chair of this conference, we’re delighted to welcome Anil Shrivastava, partner at Sagard Capital in Greenwich, Conn.

Prior to joining Sagard, Anil was a managing director at Vestar Capital, a private equity fund with $7-billion under management. At Vestar, Anil evaluated and executed new investments and managed existing portfolio companies. While at Vestar he was chairman of Sunrise Medical and on the board of directors at Radiation Therapy Services, MediMedia, and DeVilbiss Healthcare.

Prior to Vestar Capital, Anil spent 15 years at Bain & Company, where he led strategy-consulting teams across a range of industries, including consumer products, industrials, and healthcare. In addition, he led Bain's undergraduate- and graduate-level recruiting efforts. He began his career at the investment banking firm of James D. Wolfensohn.

Anil holds an AB, summa cum laude, from Harvard, where he majored in theoretical economics and minored in computer science. He earned an MBA, with honors, from Harvard Business School.

  • Water Street Healthcare Partners’ acquisition of CCBR-SYNARC, a provider of clinical services.
  • Palladium Equity Partners’ merger of its portfolio company Jordan Health Services, a home healthcare provider, with Healthcare Innovations Private Services, a provider of Medicaid home healthcare services.

  • Which specific sub-categories of healthcare services are likely to provide the best returns during 2014?
  • What makes the healthcare services space so attractive for middle-market PE investors today and what factors may impact its future growth?
  • What future regulations and timetables written into the Affordable Care Act may affect middle-market PE investors?
  • How are lenders approaching healthcare services deals and what factors are behind their decisions?
  • What are the metrics and valuation guidelines that can help you judge a middle-market healthcare services deal?
  • What are the misconceptions about healthcare services investing -- and what is the reality?
  • How can first-time investors in the space avoid traps and pitfalls?
  • What have been some recent notable deals with middle-market healthcare services companies?
  • With limited growth prospects in the largest healthcare service companies, is there now deal competition from large PE firms?
  • What are the best practices for managing healthcare services portfolio companies?
  • What are the most important things a firm has to get right when exiting a healthcare services investment?
