There’s no shortage of the number of hats a private equity firm’s investor relations partner must wear today.

Fundraiser. Intermediary. Advocate. Translator. Influencer. Deal-maker.

The common thread tying together these roles is that each of them supports and enhances the firm’s strategy and all the rest of its functions.

To be sure, managing the firm’s relationships with its investors is critical to the IR function, but it’s only the tip of the iceberg.

You'll benefit from the 360º view our panelists take when you attend The Capital Roundtable’s first-ever conference on “Best Practices for Private Equity Investor Relations Partners,” being held in New York City, Thursday, April 7th.

Other key dimensions are --

  • identifying new funding sources and presenting the firm’s investment strategy to them.
  • responding to LP’s concerns about portfolio companies and the potential impact of outside events.
  • understanding issues and details pertaining to the fund’s performance.
  • ensuring communication between deal teams and compliance overseers.
  • protecting the LPs and GPs and OPs from distractions.
  • presenting compelling co-investment opportunities to limited partners.

You’ll come away from this Capital Roundtable conference understanding what it takes to arrive -- and succeed -- in the world of private equity IR.

By attending this conference, you'll learn --

  • key reasons why private equity IR is becoming more professionalized.
  • types of backgrounds and training IR partners must have.
  • why today’s IR professionals possess more diverse skill sets than ever before.
  • what IR professionals do to facilitate efficient co-investment processes.
  • how IR teams manage crises by improving the fund’s responsiveness to hot button issues.

On April 7th, you'll meet and hear from experts who will explain why the role of IR partners is evolving and why IR professionals are uniquely positioned to help drive the firm’s growth.

Here are just a few of the elements of the IR role that you’ll hear discussed at this conference --

  • Ensuring that the firm’s investment and operating partners can focus on doing deals and overseeing the portfolio.
  • Meeting new demands from LPs, such as greater amounts of information and transparency.
  • Using technology to deliver the right amount of information, customized to meet each investor’s needs.
  • Understanding the portfolio and how a fund is managing risk and regulatory issues in order to answer important questions in the deal process.

Here Are Three Reasons Why You Should Join Us

  1. Learn best practices for fundraising, for keeping investors happy, and recruiting new ones.
  2. Learn what LPs expectations are, and how to routinely surpass them.
  3. Learn how top recruit IR professionals, and how to assess, motivate, and keep great people.

& More Than 20 IR Experts

Chairing our conference is James Rutherfurd, managing director at Pine Brook Partners. He is also a member of the firm’s investment committee.

Jim joined Pine Brook in February 2015.  Previously he was with 3i Group, an international investment firm focused on private equity, infrastructure, and debt management, where he was responsible for investor relations and fundraising in the Americas.

Before 3i, he was executive vice president at the private equity firm Veronis Suhler Stevenson, where he was in charge of investor relations, fundraising, and the firm’s co-investment program for six years.

Before that, Jim served as a managing director at J.P. Morgan & Co. in the technology, media, and telecom (TMT) industry investment banking group. He has held positions as a director at The First Boston Corporation (now Credit Suisse) and as a corporate and securities lawyer at New York law firm Rogers & Wells (now Clifford Chance).

Jim earned an AB from Princeton and a JD from the University of Virginia School of Law.

On How IR Partners Create Value

Jim and our 20 other knowledgeable panelists will address such questions as --

  • Why is the role of IR partner so important to middle market PE firms? How has the role grown in importance over the past few years, and what is driving this trend?
  • How can PE firms leverage IR partners to increase their assets under management, fund new acquisitions, or develop a competitive advantage?
  • What are some of the key challenges facing IR partners at PE firms today?
  • How do IR partners integrate their activities with GPs?  Do LPs look favorably on firms that have IR specialists?
  • Are business schools or other post-graduate educational or training programs placing a greater emphasis on IR today? At PE firms, specifically? If so, why?
  • How have best practices for IR partners changed over the past several years, particularly in the wake of new regulations such as Dodd-Frank, calls for greater transparency, and investor scrutiny on areas such as fees and returns?
  • How do PE firms recruit IR partners today?  What backgrounds do they look for?  Is it necessary for them to have a law degree?

Here Are Three More Reasons Why You Should Join Us

  1. Understand how IR professionals meet the growing needs associated with the new world of compliance.
  2. Explore how to effectively work with portfolio managers and how to strike the right balance between face time with investors and letting them focus on their day job.
  3. Learn what it will take to be a part of the next generation of IR partners.
