Over the past decade, hydrocarbon (i.e., traditional) energy companies have achieved the highest return -- 144% -- of any S&P 500 market sector.  Which should be no surprise -- oil, natural gas, and coal still supply almost 95 percent of the world’s energy needs.

As a result, private equity investors are continuing to place bets on traditional energy sources for the long term. In fact, in a recent KPMG survey of PE dealmakers of all sizes, energy topped all other sectors as offering the most appealing opportunities for 2010.

This doesn’t mean just billion-dollar exploration plays -- middle-market PE opportunities are equally plentiful. In the U.S., traditional energy companies are most often family businesses, including thousands of small private independent oil and gas producers -- and thousands more companies that provide the gear, the vehicles, and the distribution.

Recent notable deals have included the purchase of Blaschak Coal by Milestone Partners.  The purchase of intracoastal LNG pipelines by Crosstex Energy LP. And the acquisition of the Seneca Lake natural gas storage facility by Inergy LP. In addition, big energy is once again in an acquisition mode, which can be welcome news when planning exits.

Your success in 2010 depends on getting -- and sharing -- a real-world picture of hydrocarbon energy’s profit possibilities -- which you’ll have by attending The Capital Roundtable’s all-NEW full-day MasterClass™ on PE investments in traditional energy companies --

PE Investments in Middle-Market

“Traditional” Energy Companies --

How Investors Are Fueling Success

On Thursday, March 25, in New York, you’ll discover the specialized tactics and tightly-guarded information that can help you become a successful energy investor in today’s market.

And you’ll hear strategies for enhancing the value of your current energy portfolio companies, including how other companies are prioritizing spending and when consolidation has been worthwhile.

As a balance to your other investments, or as a sole focus, traditional hydrocarbon energy is an increasingly robust area.

And here’s a pleasant surprise -- you’re in time to take advantage of our special Early Bird Discount. Sign up today, and you can save $300!

A Full Day, a Full Measure of Exclusive Information.

By attending this all-NEW MasterClass, you’ll gain a broad understanding of traditional energy’s place in the spectrum, and why its future remains bright.

You’ll hear, for example, why more and more governmental bodies are rethinking subsidies for alternative energy enterprises, and why use of proven energy technologies is expanding.

And you’ll learn how, in the search for alternatives to foreign oil, America’s hydrocarbon riches are not being ignored -- the political reality is leaning to deploying traditional energy as a bridge to tomorrow’s clean energy future. You’ll hear the straight scoop from professionals who are plugged into Washington D.C. policies and the Senate’s proposed Framework for Energy Independence.

What’s more, we are proud to have one of the brightest lights in private equity chair this event. Leading this MasterClass will be Frank Pottow, managing director of GCP Capital Partners LLC in New York, the successor to Greenhill Capital Partners (the $1.7 billion private equity arm of prominent global investment banking firm Greenhill & Co.)

Frank has 20 years of experience in PE investments with a particular expertise in energy companies. Previously, he was a founding partner of Societe Generale Capital Partners, a managing director of Thayer Capital Partners, and a principal of Odyssey Partners.  Greenhill’s three active private equity funds have substantial capital available, and the majority of their portfolio companies increased both revenues and operating profits last year.

20 Industry Specialists Thoroughly Cover the Territory.

You’ll not only benefit from Frank’s insights, but also those of 20 noted PE energy authorities … with the knowledge and street smarts to guide you to excellent opportunities. Four panel discussions will bring together GPs, lenders, investment bankers, and other specialists, eager to explain the life cycle of energy deals and the implications of the new decade.

You’ll understand the answers to today’s key traditional energy issues, including --

  • When can dynamic hedging help add a measure of protection to cash flows?
  • How are lenders evaluating investments in traditional energy?
  • Will the Obama Administration put limits on hydrocarbons that affect PE investments?
  • Is the midstream infrastructure -- pipelines and storage -- being overbuilt?
  • How can you improve the performance of -- and add value to -- your traditional energy portfolio companies?
  • What will likely happen to the price of oil as the economy improves?
  • What are the ways for you to capitalize on the movement toward shale extraction through hydraulic fracturing?
  • How long is the current oversupply of natural gas likely to last?
  • What are the best ways to participate in transmission and distribution technology?
  • And much, much more.

Act Now While Seating is Available.

This specially-focused MasterClass from The Capital Roundtable offers all-new content and exceptional networking opportunities. You’ll have plenty of time to meet your fellow attendees and our featured speakers between presentations and at lunch, and you’ll leave with a full complement of strategies, tactics, and best practices ready for immediate use.

You should attend this MasterClass if you are a --

  • GP or LP looking to invest in traditional energy companies.
  • New PE firm interested in deal making within the traditional energy space.
